Medicare Supplement Plans Florida

Medicare supplement plans (Medigap plans) are private health insurance plans created to help fill some of the gaps Original Medicare left behind. Medicare supplement plans help Medicare beneficiaries pay for things like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. When you receive a Medicare-approved service after purchasing your Medigap insurance plan, Original Medicare covers its share first; then your Medigap plan will pay for the remaining covered costs.

When searching for Medicare supplement plans in Florida, there are a couple of options from which you can choose from. To choose the best Medicare supplement insurance plan for your needs, here are some of the things you need to know.

Choosing the Best Medicare Supplement Plan

It is essential to know that you can only sign up for this plan if you already own Medicare Part B. There are 8 types of Medigap plans available to new Medicare members in 2020, which include Medigap Plan A, B, D, G, K, L, M, and N. Regardless of the location and carrier, each Medigap plan comes with the same standardized benefits.

However, each Medigap plans provide different levels of coverage. For instance, Medicare Supplement Plan G provides a different level of coverage than Medicare Supplement Plan M. When choosing a Medigap policy, you will want to think about your health and budget.

What Do Medicare Supplement Plans Cover?

The elementary benefits offered by every Medicare Supplement plan include the following:

  • Part B coinsurance/copayment
  • Part A coinsurance
  • The first three pints of blood
  • Part A hospice care copayment/coinsurance

Some Medicare Supplement plans to cover some or all of these additional benefits at least 50%:

  • Part A deductible
  • Foreign travel emergency medical coverage
  • Part B excess charges
  • Skilled Nursing Facility Care Coinsurance

Usually, Medigap plans don’t provide coverage for medical expenses such as dental care, routine vision, or hearing aids.

When is the right time to enroll in a Medigap insurance plan?

You can enroll in Medicare Supplement during the 6 months after you sign up for Medicare Part B. During this six-month period, you can buy any policy that is sold in your area. It doesn’t matter whether you have health issues before signing up, every Medicare Supplement provider will accept your application, and they won’t charge you more for any health problem you may have during the Initial Enrollment Period.

However, if you do not enroll during this period, Medicare Supplement providers are no longer mandated to accept your application. Medigap providers might reject your application if you have certain medical conditions. And some might charge you more for accepting your application.
